Went out once and it was not a very good day. Got a couple of monster dollies and that's it. The Skykomish is where it's at right now, kings are tough, but steelhead are easy. Better watch the escapement before heading up to make the drive worthwhile.

At some point it will get good. There are fish in the Skagit, and they're going home. It's just not good at the moment, that can all change in a moment.

The scade has been slow. But some are catching. Opening day was by far the most fish caught this season so far. I personally have been up 4 times with 0 success. But with the snowmelt runoff and the higher flows the fish will start to pile in. Trust me, its gonna get good here soon. But reiter is the place to be right now. I hear of more fish caught everyday then scade all year so far.

i am headed to the cascade (i know its slow) to fish for a couple hours in the morning, i am fly fishing a small creek near newhalem and wanted to throw some metal at a few salmon on the way. went the the thread and looked at the escapement reports i have an idea what to do. but should i throw metal (what is the best size/color of blue fox) or go with corky and yarn off the bottom?

You gotta do what you gotta do. There is no one magic bait that will catch you fish every time, for any body of water. I can't emphasize this fact enough. It would be so much better if there were a best case scenario where I could tell you to "do this and you'll limit out". It would make my job so much easier. The Cascade river is suitable to float, drift and hardware, and at any given time all three will produce fish consistently. Your results will depend on fish presence and the mood that those fish are in. Water clarity, temperature and cloud cover will all be factors as to what will work. Experience has taught me that to be a successful angler in tough conditions you have to be willing and able to adapt to the water your fishing and the mood of the fish. Bring the whole box and be prepared to experiment, observe other anglers success and be lucky enough that you get a chance to show your lure to a fish.

I have learned that kings like chartreuse and green so try blue foxes in those colors or chartreuse corkies and yarn
