hmx vs lamiglass
Gunna buy a new drift fishing rod, I have a lot of rods in the 8-12 lb 3/8-3/4 range and am looking to get something with just a little more backbone. Been looking at lamis in the 150$ range but am intrigued by the fenwick hmx. Any feedback would be much appreciated, especially on the hmx, are they as sensitive as advertised?

Re: hmx vs lamiglass
lifetime warranty on the shimano.
I've had good experiences with okuma celilos and sst's
I got a fenwick eagle gt in spinning. its a good setup for cohos and pinks.
The hmx is has a real solid feel. But i dont remember if it was a one year warranty or five year.
It was 89 bucks at outdoor emporium on 4th ave SODO.

Temple Fork Outfitters 8-17. These are awesome rods, run you 130 bucks and are indestructable. The TFO warantee is awesome too. They're designed by Loomis, and they feel like it.
I've had a couple HMX rods, and I'm not a fan. They're on the stiff side, and they tend to be brittle. Of the rods I've owned, all of them broke to a fair hooked pink. The guides are over weighted and the reel seats are kind of gimmicky. I'm not going to buy them anymore.
I will never buy another lamiglas. Every rod I have bought of theirs has broken in the first or second trip that I have taken it out on. I have about 6 of them sitting in my garage broken, because they aren't even worth the 20 bucks to get them warranty replaced. Every one except the old school guide select model that I have that I bought second hand. But it's old school graphite, not the high modulus stuff. The new high modulus stuff if it's not done right, stored and shipped right is brittle.
If you want decent budget rod, go with TFO or Okuma, if you want performance perfection get an Edge rod.

Who in snohomish/skagit carries tfo? I be willing to (gulp) cross over to the dark side and go to king county if they are worth it. Sorry to hear about your trouble with lamiglass, I have a couple of em and Love them.

lamiglas X11 rods are awesome love mine and thinking of getting another one or 5 haha. I have the 9'6 bait cster rated 6-15lb and I believe it is a medium light but I have hooked springers on it along with steelhead ad will use it for coho and pinks this year, I can cast 1/3oz wt pretty far with it. rods have great back bone too while you can still feel the bite pretty well, it is my favorite drift fishing rod andthebest prt was that I got it for under $70! but normally they run from $70-100.

I have a lami x11, the 8'6" med-heavy. I've been using it for drifting and I like it just fine. I've only used it probably 10-15 times out though.

+1 Nate I have a TFO 8' 6" med bait cast just love it. Got 2 lammi 8'6" med I use for plug rods that's all there good for imo. The TFO compares well to a GL2 for 100 bucks less.
Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught....
Re: hmx vs lamiglass
I have an HMX 8-12 and have caught hundreds of fish on it. I really like mine.

Re: hmx vs lamiglass
HMX rods feel nice in the hand. However the only dealings Ive had with them have not been favorable. My uncle has a 9'6 casting. Its waiting to be sent in for the third time. Every time its the Inserts they use on the guides. They seam to just fall out. Other then that they are a great feeling rod.
Re: hmx vs lamiglass
Think I'm going to check out tfo tomorrow what ever I buy, I just picked up a shimano citica to throw on it
Re: hmx vs lamiglass
Spoonman I have the TFO 4-8 lb 9' 6'' rod. Very nice rod. Got it @ Cabelas. Had to order it there they were out of stock. Cant wait to catch some pinks with it. Im looking to get a 8-12 or 8-17 for silvers. Great rods @ cheaper price!!!!
Re: hmx vs lamiglass
Cabela's has a decent selection of TFO, Ted's in Lynnwood also has a rack of them. Outdoor Emporium does not carry them. I can't say enough good things about these roes. I'm switching over to fish with them exclusively. They just came out with another line of rods, I haven't seen them in retailers yet but I'm going to order a set of their plug rods and heavy king rods to test them out. I have fished their 13' centre pin rod at Barrier free drifting, as well as stealth float fishing with it, and it is SOOOO cool. Although my favorite rod of all time is the 9'6" 4-8 casting rod. I've caught big fish on that rod, it's bullet proof and when pair with a nice reel, I fish the Smoke with it, can throw tiny weights as far as any spinning outfit.spoonman wrote:Who in snohomish/skagit carries tfo? Re: hmx vs lamiglass
Just got home with a 9 foot 8-17 3/3-1oz tfo, now getting stuff together to head up river and try it out sure feels sweet.
Re: hmx vs lamiglass
Well it works! I broke it in right. The feel drifting tiny pencil lead and a homemade bead in like nothing I've ever felt. Thanks for the advice everybody.

Re: hmx vs lamiglass
Sweet you know the rod is good when you catch a fish on the first trip. First 3 outings for my X-11 I hooked 2 steelhead. Nice job.
