new to drift fishing? 4 - 6 foot leader 10 - 15 pound leader. #2 or larger hook. I prefer 2/0. Barbless hooks.
Egg loop knot. some pink, or orange yarn. a # 10 or 12 corkie. 12 - 20 mainline. Cast upstream at your 2 o clock let it drift down to your 10. get a feel for the river. When in doubt, set the hook. Try to get as close as you can to the other side as possible. If theres a run off, and a steep wall on the other side. the fish will hug it.

that will work just fine. but if its crowded, please DO NOT cast at 2 o'clock!

12-1 is just fine.

you will make a lot of guys mad and irritated in line if you are casting that far up stream. they are in so thick right now its not necessary.

but if you got room, then ya, go ahead and chuck up stream.

yeah as i get down there ill get a feel for what weight size, and where exactly to place casts. whats your preferred main line and leader rating? 15 and 12 seems a little light if i hook into a king with such a crowd

Might I suggest checking the river level and flow volume before you go in the water tomorrow. There are areas where it's shallow and there are banks...but some of the spots where you usually wade out a bit were downright dangerous this evening. The river is up pretty high and that water is moving fast. It almost swept me off my feet a couple times tonight and I was just trying to stand still and hold my ground.

No fish is worth your life. I probably should have just gone home this evening...but there were still quite a few guys, including myself out there...probably not the smartest move I've ever made. Thank God I'm ok and so was everyone else around me...but that river was a bit scary this evening.

That current is STRONG! Check the flow volume chart on the Puyallup Fishing Blog...it's usually pretty accurate at predicting what the next day's volume will be.

BE SAFE!

I know they are netting it the 2nd and the 3rd, but I am planning on going on the 4th. My question is, how much of an effect will the netting have on the following day (s)? Its been lights out and im wondering if that means that it will still be nuts after they drag the river for two days straight?

The game wardens didn't shut it down, it was not open. You are lucky they didn't had out big tickets. They were nice to everyone to only tell them it was shut down. It opens back up on 9/3.

It isn't the whole river only a portion of it.

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

I see now where the white comes in. I had been told that was the Stuck and the White came in closer to Orting.
If I am looking at this right The Stuck and White are the same,so the Puyallup is open above Sumner?

Yes and Yes. I don't know why the Green and White have 2 different names for the lower part of the rivers.

Correct, anywhere up river from the White is still open for the entire month. I'll be out there in the morning. Let's see how the netting has affected things. My buddy went out today (on the legal section) and limited on Pinks. He said the Game Warden also made an appearance there, but it's legal where he was so there weren't any problems.

I want to say I will stand by my first post "The game wardens didn't shut it down".
It has been a few days and Goonatic has not said he was on the open part of the river.
Also I just got a email from wdfw reminding people of the closures and stating they have given a lot of warnings.
It seems someone made has decided to be nice to the people.

I apologize if it came across as hostile. That was not at all the intent. Also I do not need to calm down; I am not worked up over this. I think one of the things about this forum is education of our self and the others who would read it. So when I see a statement that the game wardens closed it down, when it was closed I spoke up with that in mind. I understand your embarrassment on making that mistake. I have made some like it and worse. That is where the statement that you were lucky came from. I have been lucky and not so lucky in that respect.
It sounds like you took home a fish that day; and that really surprises me that the game wardens let people go with only warning and keep fish taken out of season. (That is what the ticket would have said. I know). Someone up high in the WDFW has decided not to come down on people.
Again I apologize you took it as hostile; I didn’t take Toni’s statements as hostile just informative. It helped me to look a little harder at the maps and regs and learn something.
