Kayak fishing for lings in puget sound.

With the opener tomorrow, anyone know anywhere from hoodsport to Tacoma I could launch my kayak and catch a ling?

The spot used to be under the Tacoma Narrows where the old bridge sunk. Tons of rocky debris. There is a marina just a mile or so south of the bridge. Beware, you'll lose gear, it's a real tackle grabber.

as a longtime kayak angler i'd strongly recommend against fishing the narrows in a kayak unless you really know what you're doing, and how strong and when the tide changes are.

Yeah I was thinking under the narrows would be a little scetchy.

Didn't think of that, sorry. South of the Narrows is an artificial reef called Toluca Shoal. I don't knowe exactly how far. Probably too far for a kayak.

The Toliva Shoal would be a long haul in a kayak if it was windy. If you draw a line between the southern most point of Fox Island and Ketron Island, its about 1/2 way. Roughly 1.5 miles north and a little west from Steilacoom - which would probably be the closest launch point.

I agree, the Narrows would be tricky in a kayak - plus its nasty for loosing gear.

Id try along the rock wall outside the Tacoma Yacht club right near where the Vashon Ferry terminal is. Be prepared for lots of company!

If you could make the drive, I would go further north. Lings have become pretty rare in the south sound. The fishing gets progressively better as you move north. The Elliot Bay Marina jetty is the next good spot going north, but it starts to get significantly better around Possession bar off the south end of Widbey Is.

may not want to bother with the tacoma area. yesterdays(may2nd) derby at pt. defiance yielded only 2 lings.

We're up in north sound area 8-2. I've never went linging up this way. Can anyone recommend ling fishing in 8-2, 7 or? Would like to meet others to go linging with and can chip in reasonably. Thank you! =D>
