Ticks, are they as bad this year i have been hearing?

Post by drysuperfly52 » Fri May 29, 2015 11:04 am

I am headed to the eastern side of the state this weekend, i would love to fish in some shorts but from what i have been hearing is the tick season is brutal this year. I am headed to Moses Lake area if that helps.

Has anybody encountered any this year? if so where at?

I have not heard anything yet, but just do not brush up against the sage brush. It takes a little practice to weave through them with minimal contact, but that has been my best technique for avoiding them. I am not sure pants would really help, just strip down and check all your warm moist places. I was never really worried about ticks, but everyone here on the west side of the state seems deathly afraid, they are less annoying than spiders in my opinion and they take a little while to reach their destination so you almost always catch them before they bury their head in you..
Only in really bad years will they hang out in the tress and drop on you!

Might want to check out using permethrin. Be sure to read up on it and how to use it properly and keep it away from cats if you have them. It is what the military uses to kill biting insects in jungles and other places where it can be a serious problem. Basically is a insecticide that contains a neurotoxin that kills on contact. Check it out its amazing but be sure to read the instructions.

I don't think I've ever had or seen a tick in Washington. In North Carolina if you went out in the field garden or woods you had to do a complete tick check. I don't miss that ha ha

oh the ticks are out that for sure, only a few places that I have heard of so far over here on the east side, blue lake, horseshoe lake, in the shrubbs of course, then moses lake, but that was the dogs running threw the fields.
just remember to check yourself before crwaling into the shower you will be fine
