ScuttleButt fishing contest - covid safe???
ScuttleButt fishing contest - covid safe???
I just saw the big add/announcement on the home page about the Coho fishing trip with Rob and Mike - sponsored by Scuttlebutt. Its scheduled for later this month.
I'm just wondering how big this boat is? How will they maintain at least 6 ft between everyone on the boat? Will everyone wear masks all the time? Have Mike and Rob been tested? Will they get tested right before they leave the doc? How about the winners? Will they get tested before they go out? I dont think that would help much because as far as I know, no rapid tests are available yet locally.
This seems to me to be a very irresponsible thing to do at this time.

Good points.

Two full days, 88 views and no comments either way?
I fully expected to get blasted by the anti-maskers, but I did not expect crickets.
Mike, Rob - no comment at all?

Speaking to the original thread..
When we interact with people around us, who maybe we interact with all the time, and they seem like ‘Practically family’...
Realize that we really don’t know who everyone’s contact points are.
I’m a nice guy to have in your boat. Got my own tackle, usually cover the launch.
But M-F, I’m working in a hospital having close physical contact with dozens of people. Same hospital has plenty of COVID patients. Some of my patients have had COVID.
But on Saturday when it’s time to go fishing, as soon as I step off from work, I just look like
another guy at the boat launch.

Chirp chirp... I would say not too big of deal to keep distance or wear a mask, especially since you would be out in the air and wind. It all comes down to viral load, exposure amounts and time, so if you are breathing down someones neck you could transmit easily. Being outside greatly reduces any exposure unless you are actively coughing on someone as the aerosols dissipate and dilute quickly.
That being said, if I am lucky enough to be drawn I would likely wear a mask most or all of the time (especially when motoring out under the cover), not only to protect myself, but as they are designed to protect others around me. Especially right now with the air quality it makes double sense to wear a mask to protect yourself from smoke as well as virus (not only Covid, but any flu/cold bugs).

Thank you for your concerns. Masks will be provided by Grays Harbor Unders and distancing will be practiced to the extent possible. Hand sanitizers on board.

Around 1400 or so. The lucky winner is Reynaldo Baldoza.
