King County: Pine and Beaver are always crowded, I'd expect to find trash there now, as I always have before....

I know pierce county's American lake could use some attention. I just got into it about two weeks ago with a couple that threw an empty worm can into the water as I floated by picking it up they felt to need to give me they're .02's on my "over achievment". But if no one picks up the crap in the water then what will it look like in just 10 years?

In 1 year if there was no clean up it would be bad ten years and there would be a mound of garbage every where!!ReelFisher wrote:I know pierce county's American lake could use some attention. RE:Cleaning Up After Someone - Bring A Trash Bag
(I'm quoting from a previous post I put up about littering)
It really is too bad how disrespectfull people are towards the environment. Nothing irritates me more than going to a nice fishing hole and seeing it ridden of garbage. Not only is it unpleasent to look at but it also poses a serious health issue. I've been to lakes that had dirty diapers, broken glass, rusty cans littered along the banks. Nothing makes a better day of fishing than stepping on a dirty diaper and cutting yourself on a rusty can or broken glass. Top that off with a case of hepatitis, and a trip to the emergency room for stitches and a tetnas shot, and you have yourself a cocktail for the best day of fishing ever (major sarcasm).
One of my favorite places to fish (as some of you know) is Dog Lake at the top of White Pass. The scenery is amazing and refreshing... at least it used to be so prestine. Last year, all along the bank where I fish were scattered beer bottles, used toilet paper (not for a number one, if you catch my drift), and other random garbage. Nothing takes away the serine quality of a mountain fishing trip than seeing mother nature 'raped' of her beauty by inconsiderate morons. People wonder why so many lakes and outdoor places are being shut down. While this is not the only reason, the complete lack of consideration when it comes to litter, does play some role.
-----------
That said, I would love to join the band wagon and pitch in for a clean up effort. This is a necassary step for a few reasons, first, there is not enough 'paid labor' for cleaning up lakes. It's much easier to start closing off fishing holes than to pay overworked people to clean the areas. Secondly, who wants to fish in garbage. Since about five percent of the fishing population loves to litter, I'm willing to step up for their blatent disregard. I live in Yakima, but am willing to pitch in anywhere within a hundred mile radius. Love the idea. STUPID LITTERERS!!!!!!

I just got home and see you guys got some big plans:-" ...fishnislife wrote:As I was reading the topic I was thinking the same thing. It would get a lot of press if we did it up right and had a profound effect. A couple of people could do some serious clean-up in a little bit of time. Something like a "fish-in and clean-up" would be cool. Clean-up for awhile and then fish that lake. Might be something to go along with this years WL.com Extravaganza after the fishing and BBQ, we could do a little clean-up.bigbasstaz wrote:Down in Oregon I was involved in some waterway cleanup projects and it was fun and helpful!! We have a pretty good number of people and we could start getting together and cleaning up at hard hit areas. It would cause some good press and help the fisheries:cheers:
Let's do it,

kevinb - this is something cool to do with your little one. Teach them young to respect the outdoors, and if they see you doing it, they will appreciate it that much more.

RE:Cleaning Up After Someone - Bring A Trash Bag
A BIG THANK YOU to all of you that pack a bag or two in the tackle box to P/U trash. I've done the same for years. I can't stand people without respect for the natural beauty of the "Great Outdoors".
In the Spokane area (like Marc), I've noted the Public Access at West Medical Lake as a real problem spot for littering. Being "boatless", I enjoy the public bank access and the lake's natural beauty; however, I regularly P/U at least 1-2 produce bags of garbage, prior to the first cast. Otherwise, I feel as though I'm fishing in a trash heep.
On the positive, on a recent trip to Badger Lake, I found little garbage. Another angler remarked: "Oh, a Gal has been walking through here and picking it up".
