Drew, excellent Chris Rock pull, and that bit really speaks volumes if you listen to it all.

Cav, we will have to agree to disagree on this one, because I don't think you will ever come even an inch closer to the middle from where you stand now.

I have this conversation often with my libertarian dad. My family has owned a business as long as I have been alive, and my extended family has been farming independently for over one hundred years. We have always been in the entreprenurial position, and seeing what government regulation does to an industry. Petroleum is regulated in safety alone. It is actually akin to farming as an industry, because many practices and chemicals are controlled for our safety by the government, the product is a commodity, and it is traded on an open market. Interestingly, the same thing has happened to the price of wheat because speculation in the markets went significantly down in businesses and significantly up in commodities thanks to hedge funds.

1970's through 2001, wheat stayed between $3 and $5 a bushel (60 lbs). It has surged recently up to as high as $14 per bushel, and hovers in the low teens depending on variety. This is not due to supply and demand, as supplies have been relatively stable. Demand is no higher either domestically or abroad. The only two solutions is a markup by the seller or speculation. Being that all sellers own shares of commodity once it is in the grain storage elevators, the speculators are driving the market. Oil is in the same situation, but the companies producing oil have much more influence on the commodity than the speculators do.

My solution is to remove oil from the commodities market. This suits your desire for oil to be unrestrained by government, and my desire for oil prices to go down, because speculation can be removed from the process. Then, if supply and demand is changing the price, we can learn this from how the company is run. If it is not, we can prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

Cool!!! I'm getting tired, too.

I have to admit, you are better at articulating your thoughts than I am. :salut:

Back to fishing, Okay? Which judging from last year's contest, you are pretty good at that, too. :salut:

I love debate, Chuck, because it forces me to get a better understanding of current issues. If Im wrong, I want to know, and I like to learn about other people's opinions. I enjoy discourse, and I like to keep my mind moving (which as you might all notice, I have a rather large number of irons in the fire at all times).

But speaking of fish, if you go shad fishing, Ill trade you dungeness crab for any shad you can provide me. We crab around thanksgiving, and would pick the fish up then. I know the Willamette has a good shad run, if you make it out that way.

i try to stay outta these conversations most times...but...

yep.$8 in new zealand. $11 in paris.

This is how we know the petro market is not supply and demand. how can demand be SO high in new zealand?? paris?? you would think demand would be higher in say....new york city...or maybe mexico city. the people of these areas are simply victims. they drive less miles (smaller geographical areas) therefore they get charged more to make up for the fewer miles they drive. plain and simple, happens all over the world.....the place where you travel the least amount distance-wise has higher prices. that's why bilings MT has the cheapest gas this side of the mississippi....LOTS-O-TRAVEL=cheaper price. anyway....we are all in for a world of hurt real soon....do you think i could get a canoe trailer for my bicycle???
I have caught many fish in my life. The most exciting? The next one.....

actually...they have a lot of multi-purpose Bike Trailers out right now so I think if you looked around you could find one to fit your canoe. I have talked to someone who uses a bike trailer for their Kayak so there you go. Pontoons might be a little harder to fit on there but I am sure you could fit a float tube. hehehe, it is interesting to see how many people are starting to bike to work. over the past probably 3 months I have seen the number of new or newer bike commuters on the roads more than double. Overall this is a great thing, the one part that worries me though is the lack of knowledge most of these people have regarding the rules of the road for Bikes...with more Bike commuters we will probably see a lot more Bike v Car accidents...ah well, maybe after enough of them happen the news station/paper will finally take my story idea into consideration...

I'll make you one if you give me your bike. :-"

If you don't want to travel to fish, buy a place on the lake! See? I'm a great problem solver.#-o
