BYE BYE SONICS
BYE BYE SONICS
If anybody wanted to know, say goodbye to the SONICS. Today at about 4, they made the decision to pack it up and move. (like we all didn't see this coming). I guess in the contract Seattle is not allowed a Pro team until 2012. Go Trailblazers???......

RE:BYE BYE SONICS
As did many, I grew up watching the Sonics. I was there when Fred Brown, Jack Sikma and the rest won the championship in Seattle. As I grew older and began life as an adult, my interests changed and the Sonics no longer were such a big deal to me. I am sorry to see them go for all the fans that still enjoy watching them play but I am also happy the city didn't fork out millions to update the arena. I am amazed how much money is spent on things like new Mariners and Seahawks stadiums when maybe that money could be put to better use. Just my opinion. To the team, may you NEVER have to live with another Wally Walker. What a long term mistake he was.

Yup, watching the Sonics as a kid was great.:bounce: I loved going to the games in the Kingdome with the pull out stands. Clasic.:bball:
BUT, I have to admit, Im not sad to see them go. It NOT the same team. It was the team I liked I guess, not necessarily the sport.
:jocolor: Id like to see a pro dodgeball team take over the Key Arena...:jocolor:

From what the news said this morning it sounds like they paid us 45 million immidiately to be able to get out of the lease. In addition the Sonics name, colors and logo stays in Seattle (so we wont see the Oklahoma City Sonics) and if in 5 years Seattle has not gotten another NBA team here to play and take over the colors then Bennet will have to pay another 30 Million to Seattle. It is sad to see the end of an era but at least it was resolved peacefully enough...still I wonder what the judge would have ruled...

My first game was when Lenny Wilkins was a Rookie.Back in the old Arena. They are leaving but they are leaving us the logo and the name.Boy we got nada. Its too bad ,Basketball generates alot of money for the city and surrounding area as does any major sporting event whether it be the PBR in Tacoma or or the Sonics at the Key.I will miss watching the Supes.
WOW that was fast.Steve Balmer at Microsoft is sponsoring a new team in Seattle. It just came over the news.YIPPPEEEEEEEEE......

RE:BYE BYE SONICS
The year they won the championship I was in 8th grade. Me and my buddy went to the Sonics parade following their victory and got to ride of Fred Brown's car in the parade. In the Sonic Boom magazine from that year celebrating the championship victory, my picture w/Downtown Freddie Brown at the parade is there. It was cool as a kid to have had that experience. Later as a 20 year old I worked for John Johnson at his summer basketball camps at the Bellevue Athletic Club. Fred Brown brought his son Terrick to camp that year and both Fred and his son were great to be around. James Donaldson was a guest for one of the days and taught the art of posting up in the low post position. Yea, I was the defender. It was entertaining for the kids who loved to watch James turn and dunk the ball over me. Of course he had to demonstrate that over and over again. I just stood there with my hands up all of 6' 3" while the over 7 footer did his thing. There was also a guy named Phil Lumpkin who played for the Portland Trailblazers there. Phil and I were the assistant coaches at that camp. it was a great time and a great experience. I was in college here in WA at the time also playing basketball which is why I was given this opportunity. Great guys, great memories for me. It would be great to see a new team here. New blood might just bring back the interest that once was, back in the 80's.

RE:BYE BYE SONICS
I'm upset over this as they've been here quite some time and, aside from the Storm, have the only Pro. title in Seattle history. My god, I still have my 79 title shirt with all the team pictured! I'm 36 now, but distinctly remember when I was young, 8 and older, I enjoyed watching Pro - NBA and NFL games. I can now say that for some time 12 years of so, I have been a much, much more avid college fan. As Seattleites, we should be really pissed with our Mayor for placing a monitary value on the team - something which was said would not be done. I feel bad for the businesses that lose 41 home games of pre and post function fans. However, as a city we have a brand new Seahawks stadium and a brand new SafeCo field. I believe in most polls, the maj. or people did not support dealing with the NBA. This is yet another reason why college football and basketbass will reign supreme for me.
RE:BYE BYE SONICS
Goodbye Sonics, Goodbye NBA. I'm done as an NBA fan. I'm still in shock.
I hated David Stern before, I hate him worse now. The NBA has been going down the drain recently, and wouldn't mind seeing Stern screw the whole thing up. What a joke of a league it is becoming. Real basketball=NCAA. I enjoy watching good defense, hardly such a thing is played in the NBA.
I can't believe our mayor and local politicians sold out for $$$ over our Sonics.....
I still hate Clay Bennett, for numerous reasons...I don't want to get started....

I know it is a stretch but I really think those of you who are serious fans would enjoy watching the Blazers. I am from Vancouver and I literally live next to the I-5 bridge, so Portland was always my team, but they will be nice for a long time. They have lots of good players and the days of "Jail Blazers" are over. So if you need a team now, I know the Blazer faithful would welcome Seattle.

No jumping ships here. I love Brandon Roy and watched him for years back at UW, will always support him, but I can't root for another team. I just don't see myself being much of an NBA fan anymore...Portland does have a shot to be title contenders down the road. I don't think they have the best talent or team, but they have the coach in McMillan to be a great team.....zbo wrote:I know it is a stretch but I really think those of you who are serious fans would enjoy watching the Blazers. I did just pick up a Sonics jersey today at Joes while returning a reel. 50% off, why not at that price, plus its gonna be something to show the kids in 30 years and explain to him what all went down...
You will have a great team to root for there zbo, just hope they can stay healthy and focused...

I don't think anyone wants "another" team....That's the thing that people are trying to say to comfort themselves...zbo wrote:Thanks Sam. I wouldnt be suprised if Seattle gets another team anyway so you guys will be hopefully be back in action soon.

LOL hahaha ya, I was just trying to comfort all of you Seattle folks
RE:BYE BYE SONICS
If Seattle is smart they'll say goodbye to basketball permanently and invest those millions of dollars in a serious hockey franchise.
