I've only been night fishing once. We had a great time and we all caught our limits of Kokes. My kids keep begging me to do it again.

The trick was corn and maggots.

Gian - Not at the lower elevations right now. I've fished RS at night and did quite well for large fish on the fly. It seems like everything came alive around 2100 hours and lasted until about 2200 (only a good hours worth of bite), then everything pretty much stopped. It was 0100 and we could hear the fish jumping every now and then. I have looked into glow in the dark beads on my flies when I tie them up. Mosquitos = very few of em. Now, higher up, I've been in swaths of those things getting to my *still* snow covered, favorite alpine trout lakes. Around 2,000' they really get thick (at times).

The night we were at Chapman and that photo was taken (and I can't remember the time of year) we got bit more from about 4 or 5 till dusk, but then were bite-free the rest of the evening. We had some flying around the lantern, but none of the biting variety. We were smoking cigars though, perhaps the smoke (and stink) kept them away!

If Im fishing in the evening I usuall spray down with repellent

Im getting more eager to get my pontoon rigged for night use, Im getting skunked left and right....skunked today at the hunter's boat launch, about 100yrds north of the launch.

Every time my dad and I have gone out night fishing for Koke's we used corn and glo hooks, or powerbait and glo hooks, and a couple floating lights. My only problem is work is slow so not getting very many hours and we are having to move to a new location so money is pretty tight at the moment.

AaronE wrote:I just posted a similar question before seeing this. Since most boating equipment regs don't apply to float tubes, I'm curious as well. I'm planning on going out this Friday night, ordered my UV headlamp last night and it should be here in time to make for a great night of fishing with the full moon.
UV and green lights attract bugs the most per actual studies dont using different spectrums of light...and I've heard that the best time to fish per the lunar cycle is like around 3 days before or after a full moon, but not on the night of the full moon.....something I read somewhere....

UV light is supposed to attract more to insects in flight and green for insects that are at rest....red attracted the least, yellow the second least.

Is it legal to use chemical lights (light sticks) on your boat instead of electric?

I have never seen any restrictions on the kind of light you can use

Hey HG.....if they are proper colors, placement, and viewable from the specific distance (1 or two miles i think) and angles, then there is no law that i am aware of that says "what type" of light must be used. interesting idea....way to get creative....you are nowhere near the box....
I have caught many fish in my life. The most exciting? The next one.....

I doubt glow sticks are viewable that far out lol......not a bad idea though to use for attracting bait fish, like add a weight, tie the stick to some line and drop er down.

I just got back from some late night fishing for bass (11:30). I caught a pair of 2lbers right around dusk, but once the sun was completly gone the bite was over. I was using a pumkinseed senko. For you guys that night fish for bass what is your strategy. Do you rely on the sound of the lure, the scent, or the color? I started wondering if my lure was too dark for them to see. What kind of rigs do you guys use? I see some great live bait suggestions, but is there anything else? I almost tryed dunking my mag lite into the water to see if I could draw any of the fish in, but had second thoughts.
