If you were a PRO....

Post by fishnislife » Wed Jun 13, 2007 10:29 pm

who would you want your sponsors to be?
Let's have some fun.
This is completely hypothetical because I think if (and when) any of us go pro we would probably except anyone who would help us out to get us to were we wanted to be.

For me I would want:
Bass Pro Shop
Mercury
Tracker
Shimono
Gamakatsu
Yamamoto
P-Line
Oberta
Huddleston
Harrisons Footwear (have to get a local family business in there)
and of coarse WashingtonLakes.com

You can get sponsors even as an amatuer. Many companies have a field pro staff and will donate some lures/line (or whatever their product is). It is tough to get in the door since they receive many requests and also requires you keep in constant contact with them as well as help sell their product. In my old fishing club in NC half the mebers were sponsored from companies like Luckycraft, Gamma fishing lines, Culprit, Flying Fishermen Eyewear, Monster Enegery drinks.

They just don't throw the stuff at you in buckets either, usually they give a $100-$200 worth of stuff each year and you have to provide feedback to the company. You also have to worth the local fishing expos if they plan to have a booth there.

Lots of work to have a patch on your tourny shirt

On the FLW circuit you could fish pro now, only that you would have last priority and would have to cough up 3K entry fee per tournament. Problem is there are many qualifiers that give you priority on sign up and the field would be filled prior to being able to get in.

Also I would never do it unless you have had a lot of tourney experience. You can sign up as a coangler for $600 a tournament and get a back seat with a pro to see what it is like fishing in a 200 boat tourny. It is a lot different than a club tournament.
