Pre-1911 Map of Lake Tapps Area?

Post by dilbert » Tue Jun 26, 2007 7:48 am

Has anyone seen any old maps, photos, or cave drawings of the lake tapps area before the lake was created in 1911? I'd be interested in seeing what the terrain looked like, or possibly still looks like, under the lake. I looked on google and haven't had much luck... it seems there weren’t many satellite photos around during that time.:-k

What I can tell you is to go there when the lake is down. Lots of places to park around the lake in the winter. Walk around there isn't much water in the winter. Watch out for the mud. I have a buddy that lives on the lake and we see people walking out in their socks regularly. Icky, sticky.

Berry that old map is pretty damn cool! Its not a topo that Dilbert was wanting but it shows all three of the original lakes. Way cool web site too!!

It's awsome what info I can get from some of you guys, you all do alot of homework!

Here's another artical (WDFW survey) that trout magnet linked for lake tapps. I find this extremely informative also.

Dilburt I have been taking winter pictures of the lake for about 5 years to figure out what holds fish in particular areas. You are welcome to look at my pictures but they really won't mean much unless you have been in the locations.
I will take you to the spots I was standing when I took the pictures so you can see then and now.
Oh we will need to be in a boat now.
Let me know what you want to do.
Bill
I'm not in the toilet yet, but I'm definitely standing on the rim.

That old map is really cool. It looks like it even shows the property lines around the original lake tapps. Were there houses there at one time that were flooded?

The WDFW survey has some good info too, thanks!

Bill - Do you have the photos digitally? I'd really like to see them, but I'm only a little familiar with the lake geography.

Here's another cool one from that map site. It has the outlines of the old lakes and property lines as dashed lines within the new lake.

Here is a link to some old pictures mostly of construction projects associated with turning Lake Tapps into a reservoir, just type Lake Tapps into the search box.
