Laid off
Laid off
With the way the economy is these days and the fact that I just have been laid off, I was wondering how many of you are in the same boat and what industry do come from.

RE:Laid off
Had some co-workers get layed off, and the rest of us lost a few bucks an hour.
Were focusing hard on getting the bike and truck paid off. Never know when It will be my turn again. Layed off Nov 07 for 4 months was a drag with vehicle payments looming each month..
We picked up a freezer and started getting bulk foods from Sams, butchers, places other than the highly marked up grocery stores.

RE:Laid off
Got laid off in 2006 during a restructuring of the city. Got rehired before my layoff date, but was one of 56 firefighters laid off in the process, and it took 3 yrs to get all of us back .

RE:Laid off
Just about every type of business down here has had layoffs, cutbacks, or just closed.
Werhauser closed it's lumber and plywood mills, Westport shipyard laid off a lot of people, the bio-diesel plant has laid off most of it's employees. The list goes on and on.
Aberdeen School District is going to have a reduction in force at the end of the school year.
The way things are going I'm not sure this area will survive!:-({|=

Winco Foods really have some low prices compared to most other Supermarkets. Especially on Produce and canned goods. They also stock a lot of bulk foods.
One store is just off I5 near Marysville. Another is South on 212th,just East of 167. I heard another Store has or will soon open in Spokane.
They do not take credit cards;checks, debit cards and cash will work.

One of the stores in Spokane have already open and I shop it weekly. Overall really good prices but because of them the rest stores are lowering theie prices as well.

I'm there with you, I got laid off last Friday. I am a bodyman, ASE certified Master Collision & Refinishing tech, & an I-Car trained and certified GMAW welder. I'm sure I could find another job, but I think I'm going to try and make a go of starting my own business. Can't be any worse than working for someone else who doesn't appreciate my skills and ability and I'm tired of building someone else's business.kantill wrote:With the way the economy is these days and the fact that I just have been laid off, I was wondering how many of you are in the same boat and what industry do come from.

My brother-in law is losing his job from Boeing and his wife is on the chopping block at Boeing.
I'm okay right now, but I'm pretty sure I'll be looking for a new job next year, I'm in construction. We're trying to save all are pennies this year to prepare for next year.

This may well be the time for you to do that. If you can get customers and if charging a lower price than the other shops people will be trying to save money so they will come to you.

Hey guys this sounds kind of funny but hospitals in the tacoma area are still hiring. Multicare my employer has several open positions from admin to technical. You should check out the website www.multicare.org for job information. Hope this helps some of you.

The Dollar Store is hiring...but it's really tough out there. Spokane's unemployment rate is 10%. Once inflationary pressures begin to kick into high gear, food prices will go-up making things even worse...plus, oil's bottomed. On the bright side, you do have a field opening up for "tech-green jobs" -- it's a growing field and requires some technical schooling first.

RE:Laid off
Got called in for an interview this morning Jobs are still open around here. Not looking as bad as WA I think we have a 3% unemployment rate here. Sorry to here about the hard times Last night I was watching a show on living on the edge and there was a guy who went from $750,000 a year to delivering pizza Times are tough all around just keep looking the jobs are out there. I would suggest also going to your local Work Source office they have a lot of ways they can help. (the best thing to do is get your resumes very detailed make it as easy as possible for the employer to hire you)

Taz you're right man...WY is like 3.1% or close to there...wow!! I would have never guessed that. We're around 9.8-10% in Spokane, which is right at the top there with Michigan, but you're spot on -- there is work, you just have to find it. Finding it is the hardest part. We have family friends who have worked as senior sales personnel at IBM for 29 years and they both got laid off (in the Valley) and then another nice couple in their 50's got laid off from Ford and another I know from Dell Computer. California is really hurting right now, but it's always good to see the bright spots in a dim-room. 3% unemployment means 97% employment!! Good to know...
