Well, think about it: Post/Pole is anchored and really damn STOUT. Boat is lightweight fibreglass and moving at speed.

Ever had your head down and hit a fence post or some other rigid object?? Did it move?

Damn shame someone proobably got hurt because of negligent thinking or lack of Intelligent boat driving.

Not really. The water is pretty shallow and I'm sure the pole is steel fill with cement, sitting in a footing that weighs 10 or 20 tons. Fiberglass doesn't hold up too well against steel and concrete.

After taking a second look, maybe the pole is not a wooden log type pole after all. I thought it was just one of those timers like a wooden post that a dock sits on.

I wouldn't really count out wooden pilings either. The ferries run into them every day.

And the Ferries are made of STEEL and move quite slowly compared to what this Bozo was doing.

Believe it or not but that boat was repaired and was listed for sale on offshore only.com.

Temporary Insanity II Impaled on Channel Marker
Near Bay Bridge Marina on Kent Island: Just before 2 a.m., a 1992, 38-ft. Fountain power boat slammed into a fixed, channel marker, ripping a 17-ft. gash in the forward hull & becoming impaled on the steel piling holding the channel marker. A passenger suffered a broken arm & lacerations; a passing boater rescued the two men. DNR police cited the skipper, who "claimed to have been blinded by the lights of a sailboat", for negligence, traveling at an unsafe speed, & failure to maintain a proper lookout.

An alert couple, M.&F. Lobach, happened to visit the Bay Bridge Marina when Temporary Insanity II was being hauled, after the impalement. They reported the boat as a 42-ft. Fountain, otherwise their story matched the Sun's above. The Mariner of September 22, 2000, p.11 reproduced their pictures of Temporary Insanity II.
