What Internert Connection Do You Have?

Post by Marc Martyn » Sat Mar 13, 2010 9:20 am

I am curious as to percentage of internet connections that people are using to access the site. I went to Comcast High Speed a couple of years ago and love it. However, it is certainly pricey.

Comcast high speed broadband. Fastest and most reliable ISP have had. But - like Marc said - it is spendy.

Comcast - I think the price and support sucks - but ultimately i am looking for speed and they beat out the others in that department.

Ive had issues with Comcasts performance so I switched to Qwest DSL. Im sure its an issue in the line to the house and have had them out here many times but no fix. On days above 90 I would loose my Comcast internet and at certain peak times its very sluggish. I do a lot of web work so I need consistancy and a higher upload speed. I can even host a server at home and not violate my service agreement.

I have Qwest DSL too. I am not that worried about speed. Mostly I surf or shop or watch some Netfix, and it seems like it's pretty adequate. I don't know if hi-speed would make it much faster for those things.

What do you guys pay for the hi-speed broadband stuff? Is it cheaper if you bundle?

#-o Man I hear you with that!

I had problems with my phone (Comcast) conversations dropping and people calling and they couldn't hear me answer. At the same time this was going on, we would not have internet. I called them several times, they sent someone out to check the connections in the house and said I had old wiring and it needed to be upgraded to the new more insulated cable. Of course they don't fish any wires inside walls any more and they said it was my responsibility to either do it myself or hire it done by a contractor. A tech from Comcast left me a half a spool of wire and a bunch of connections. Eventually I rewired the entire house with new cable and connections. Guess What! I still had the same problem. I called them and informed them of what I did and if they didn't change the drop from the pole to the house, I was going to cancel my service. They reluctantly sent out a technician and he very reluctantly climbed the poll and installed a new line from the pole to the house. I have not had a single issue with service since then!!

Keep on them. They don't like climbing poles. It is their last resort.

in this economy companies have to deliver. Never had much problems with Comcast, maybe a few rare losses of service which a simple reset fixed. Download speeds in the range of 850kb/second. Here on our hotel wireless we're getting 58kb/sec. ouch. Switched to my verizon phone and now at 175kb/sec.

Where I live, it's either dial-up, dsl with phone company, or satellite. I'm not paying the extra for satellite, so dsl it has been for many years.

Yea, Im specifically interested in using it in the Seattle area in the evenings for school. The school network stinks and has firewalls I need to get around when Im not in class. One of my instuctors (embedded programming) has it and likes it. I have a new Dell on the way and it has a WiMax card so Im thinking about ClearWire for that.

Thanks Bodo

Started years ago with Earthlink dial up, went to Earthlink DSL, then to Verison DSL, then to Comcrap high speed. We're paying for 12 meg and am lucky to get 1.
I just ran speedtest(dot)net a couple of minutes ago and it came back .40 mb's down and 3.61 mb's up &%#&(*)#@&^&#+#@+_*^)@&^Q)&*!!!!! Now you know why I call them Comcrap. They have had several repair crews out but they still haven't been able to fix it. I ***** and they send out a crew and cut the bill, but I'd just like to have it work properly.

I've had so many problems with comcast it was pitiful. Loss of service (phone and internet), lack of customer service, serious overcharging (was a customer for four years and got a bill out of nowhere for 460.00 for one month! Fought with them about it but they never listened.) After all that I dropped them like a bad habit and switched to Qwest hi-speed. No loss of service, reasonable rates and decent customer service. No complaints so far!
