Nice fish! I know of a 39" + (but less than 40") that was taken this weekend by a member of another forum, mamouth fish. I got out again yesterday evening but didn't have much luck, several shaker lings but that was about it. Fishing up near Lummi Rocks I caught a Tiger Rockfish, is this species common in the area at all? I took pictures of it before release, unfortunately the camera went overboard last night! Oh well.....

I've never seen a tiger rockfish caught in around here. I did see about five of them last time i went to neah bay. they are a awesome looking fish conmgrats.

Alright lite line....nice PB. So you say it topped 15 of course....probably went closer to 20?? I don't have a scale so I'm terrible at weights. Was that your limited edition "lite line bicycle spoke spinner at 500 ft"? Keep it up...

TIGER ROCKFISH?? I never even heard of those. My buddy nailed a canary rockfish north of deception a couple years back, bright orange and about 12" long.....first time I've seen one of those in area 7 (got the pic somewhere)

Yeah matt....camera in the water...that's the excuse I use when I say I landed the lunker. Either that or "forgot the camera"....

Totally joking. We still gotta try to get out one of these days.

no I'm afraid I didn't catch him on my mega-spinnerbait. It was rather interesting that he bit on to my cut plug-greenling.

I was talking to one of my freinds which works for shannon point research center as a fish bioligist and he is also a very seasoned lingcod angler around here. he was saying that the deepest he has caught lingcod is about 250ft or so. so even though my tackle allows me to fish to 500ft I've came to the conclusion that anything deeper than 250 is probably a wast of time. that particuler fish was at 100ft.

This is an image I pulled from google image. I had to search online when I realized I could not positively ID the fish by anything in the WDFW manual. Personally I assumed it was a male/female rendition of either a Yelloweye or Canary. I am not a seasoned bottomfish ID'er so I really didn't know, although my fishing partner and I both agreed it did not appear to resemble either the canary or the Yelloweye. The fish looked EXACTLY as the one pictured above. It was small, probably about 1 lb to 1 1/2# maybe 14-16" long. Promptly released to swim another day. Picked it up in about 80 feet of water over near Lummi rocks.

Sucks my camera went in the drink, dunno when I'm going to be able to afford a new one..... especially considering I am working to get the boat ready for chinook season!

Yep, I've met Gene a few times in the past few months. Actually I was out on the 26' Research Vessel with him last Wednesday observing a dogfish long line survey. Cool guy, very knowledgeable about the area.

thats funny because he was telling me about that when I fished with him and his son on sunday. He does know a lot about the area... he was telling me that he has caught a 57in lingcod and had to release it about 10years ago. I don't think he is the type to lie either.

Haha, yep that'd probly be my crew and I. I told him about our 36" off of Lummi the weekend prior to last weeks class. I'll have to mention you from the forum if I see him tomorrow.

Nope, the class I was referring to is located at Shannon Point Marine Center out in Anacortes, WA. It is part of a Bachelors degree program I am currently enrolled in at WWU.
