OK, I'd certainly be willing to agree that it could be a combination of both intentional strikes and incidental hooksets. I will say though, if it was unintentional I would expect to see a percentage of hooks buried on the outside of the mouth, which I just don't remember seeing.

Eye candy, posting report now!

catching amazing fish in God's country. Can't think of anything better!
RE:Baker Lake Sockeye
Mike, are there any maps on the site for Baker. I looked but wasn't able to locate anything. I'd love a map with the boat launch locations on it and maybe where Noisy Creek is exactly since I've never been on the lake in a boat. Just curious.
RE:Baker Lake Sockeye
I have yet to find a decent map of Baker Lake. There are topo maps available that would list the boat ramps, creeks and other terrestrial features but nothing that provides marine chart type information. Right, wrong or otherwise, I have been told that PSE will not release the information due to security concerns.
RE:Baker Lake Sockeye
I can't find a map either... We explored the lake after limiting last time, and there are some really drastic depth changes in the lower lake, like finger ridges going out into the lake. some of those might hold fish at times, so it would be nice to know that.
We launched at Horseshoe Cove Campground. You can search it on the web and find a pdf map of the campground showing the launch. It was basically a gravel bar you could launch from. It looked like the boat ramp lower on the lake (Kapulshun Point (sp?)) was paved, so you might look up that camp ground as well.
I'm not sure where rseas launches...

RE:Baker Lake Sockeye
Sorry, no contour map I'm aware of. As for boat launches, a suggestion which wouldn't take too long - use Google maps, and switch to the satelite vewi, then zoom in and scroll the shoreline roads to get a bird's-eye view of launch locations off of the roads.Dave wrote:Mike, are there any maps on the site for Baker. If you're really energetic take some screen shots and we'll get them added to the Baker lake database. Just send the .jpegs to me by e-mail, mike@washingtonlakes.com.
Anyone have some time to do this?
As to fishing - man I wish I could go! no time for at least the next full week...
RE:Baker Lake Sockeye
I am planning to either hit Baker or Lake Wenatchee on Monday early in the morning. Can't decide which but still leaning towards Baker.... may have an open seat?

RE:Baker Lake Sockeye
FISH WITH MATT !!???...WOW would love to but not sure im worthy or could measure up to MATT the mighty killer of fish('n anything else stupid enough to be in a body of water where he's going) I oft times in my travels stop at bodies of water im pass'n and know that MATT or JENS are fish'n there and stop and say a lil prayer that at least a few of the poor dumb beasts will survive for others to catch and maybe a few to reproduce....LOLOL j/k...GREAT job as usual..
line...love my Pline...were you use'n floro ?.....i've been have'n trouble with my Pline floro...im reallll careful with my knots and if hung up ya have to pull hard to break it off but in stituations where it takes a quick/hard shock/impact seems to break awwwful easy...
maps...im plan'n to hit Rife Mayfield Cushman(i "hear" monsters live there in the deep) Wynooch if my broken back and dang boat/motor probs let me and no maps....so i figured maybe old topo maps....old like before the dams were built...lolol ok here's the "old" part again...took a family trip when i was a kid to the valley where my folks had been hunting for yearssss to look for artifacts/junk before they flooded Mayfield....so anyways...try'd fight'n with the USGS site and couldnt get anywhere near a map....to my think'n knowing where the ridges run,old railroads 'n log'n roads, landings(hard bottom) ect could be useful and a place to start look'n with the electronics...
OK that's my 35 cents worth....thnx again for the great reports and all the other info you so FREELY give MATT..

RE:Baker Lake Sockeye
This is a dumb question and I probably know the answer but if I guy didn't have a trolling motor, is it possible to mooch for these fish. Any other methods?
RE:Baker Lake Sockeye
We were in fact using floro and I have to completely agree I am not at all impressed with this Pline product. We were running 15lb pline floro and every time the fish would try to make a quick run KAPOW fish gone with the greatest of easy. I have also had problems with smaller size (6lb and 10lb) in the same product on Lk WA and Lk Samm both of them have busted on me MID LEADER not even a knot failure which is just unacceptable. I am not going to waste my money on the Pline floro anymore and plan to write a letter regarding this product. For 10$ for a spool of 27 yards it is a HUGE waste of money.'OL GREY DOG wrote:

As to mooching.... you cant mooch because there isn't really a current. If the wind were howling you could drift with the wind. Oars are an option as well, I saw many people rowing and picking up fish with cannonball leads. You only need to go like .8-1.5mph so an electric motor or oars work perfectly fine.
