Naches river?

Post by kevinb » Wed Jul 06, 2011 9:30 pm

The family/extended family and I will be camping in the Naches area this upcoming weekend. I'm pretty familiar with the area but not the river or fishing itself. Thumbing through the regs and I see its "selective",in your opinion, what would be a good lure option? I will also be dusting off my fly rod but my skills are very limited at best,so I was thinking more traditional gear. I assume there are cutts and bows present but what about browns and brookies? Any info is appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin I don`t know much about trout fishing but several years ago while camping there we used regular old worms. I`m sure it`s changed by now. Main reason I jumped in was to tell ya a couple months ago with all the rain and snow melt we had the river changed big time. I have friends that camp all the time up there. They were there last weekend and said islandsbanks and rocks washed out in a major way. Don`t know how godd the fishing is or if it hurt the fishing at all. Just a heads up.:)

Rooster tails (take off 2 of the hooks and pinch the barbs), fished up there all my life and thats always worked. Put a couple split shot a couple feet above the lure and have a blast! Bright obnoxious colors have worked really well.

I really appreciate the feedback, its very useful.Thank you.
Looks like we are postponing this trip for 2 weeks, which is a bummer. My brother inlaws and I were really looking forward to smearing peanut butter and steak blood on my sister inlaws boyfriend's tent,I guess we'll wait an extra few days. So a few of us are headed over to Mason county for the weekend.

It might be still a bit high and fast (be careful!)but its on the drop. Take the fly rod... the westslopes and bows are eager to rise to any attractor dry fly ie. stimulators, adams, elk hair caddis, hoppers, etc.
Good luck
