Hit the water at about 11:00 with a slight hangover from partying a little too hard the night before, first one in a long time I remember now why moderation is the key to happiness. No bites until about 2:00 PM then the little blue gill started biting, then the perch started. Ended up with 15 perch 8-10 inches and one blue gill that was big enough to get a fillet. The guy fishing next to me caught an 18" bass. I was a little upset that he had the audacity to catch MY fish but I decided to be the bigger person and let it go. After chatting with him a bit he informed me, with broken English, that earlier this year he also caught a big brown trout through the ice. I was using a bare jig with 2-3 maggots in about 4 feet of water, the fish didn't seem to like the worms too much. I felt pretty good about the day seeing as how besides the Russian fellow next to me nobody else was catching much.

Great report, I was hoping for one from Eloika. I was there two weeks ago and between the top layer of snow and the 6" of slush below that, it was a real challenge out there. How were conditions considering the warming trend lately? Your report confirms my suspicion that the fish are lazy (hangovers as well? ha ha) and sleeping in. We were there too early and missed any bite whatsoever, but we had a SuperBowl party to get to. Where on the lake were you?

I was out there on super sunday as well and left about 2 with only 2 perch caught at about 10 right off the bat and then nothing till I left. Last weekend the walking wasn't too bad, even off the beaten paths I am sure the slush is still there but I didn't seem to fall through as much. I was fishing about 75 yards in front of Grays Landing. I think next time I go out I will fish from Jerry's Landing and walk off the docks to avoid breaking through near shore like my brother in law did last year about this time.
