Sprague Lake.

Post by YellowBear » Sat May 30, 2009 6:21 am

I have read the reports from Sprague and I see the Trout are being caught.
Has anyone that has been down there seen or caught anything else?

Thanks for your time.

On the weekend of the 23rd, I only saw trout being caught.
Heard from another angler this weekend... trout only.
I should mention that every trout out of that lake was over 14-15 inches long.

Keep in mind that after they killed Sprague out, trout was the most heavily stocked fish. I know that crappie and Large Mouth Bass have been stalked back in, but expect several years before the quanity and size will merit an attempt to target them. In general, I doubt that anyone will catch a bass of crappie for some time, except by accident.
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

Anglinarcher,
Have you ever been able to find out how many Bass and Crappie were stocked and how big?

YellowBear, not really. I know that at least one hatchery truck was used to haul Bass and Crappie from a lake North of Bridgeport, and I happened to get a chance to look inside of it. There was probably a couple hundred bass, 1 to 2 pounds, and maybe a couple hundred crappie, perhaps 7 or 8 inches long.

In short, if they did not put a lot more bass and crappie then this in, it will be many many many years. I hope they have a great spawn this year. The Bass are on the smaller size, but could be old enough; the crappie should be old enough.

Anglinarcher thank you for the info.
It will be good to get back on Sprague but if you are write and this is all they restocked, it will be a long time coming.
With the numbers of Trout they have stocked a few hundred Bass and Crappie won't have much of a chance to populate.
