The Bonneville Pool (Columbia River Reservoir) was created when the Bonneville Dam was built across the mighty Columbia River in 1938 by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Its waters extend 45 miles upstream to the Dalles Dam. The 20,200 surface acre pool is shared by both Washington State and Oregon. On the Washington side the pool is shared by both Klickitat and Skamania Counties. This huge body of water includes most of the fish species of Washington State. Perhaps the most popular are the sturgeon, salmon, steelhead, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye and shad. Photos and Overview by Bob Johansen

Pierce County's Bonney Lake covers 17 surface acres and has a maximum depth of 23 feet. Fish species include largemouth bass, rock bass, yellow perch, pumpkinseed sun-fish, brown bullhead catfish and planted rainbow trout. Prime bass habitat includes pad fields, some overhanging trees and brush, old logs and wood in the water, cattails and some private docks. Tall cottonwood trees put a lot of cotton on this beautiful little lake during the spring and yellow water irises put a lot of color on the shoreline. Public access is provided by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wild-life. The small access area offers few amenties other than limited parking space, usually a portable toilet during the spring and a solid gravel boat launching area. Bob Johansen

Holds bass, crappie, perch, sunfish, and catfish. Head south out of Cheney on Cheney-Plaza Rd. for about 15 miles. When Cheney-Plaza Road Splits off to the East, Take the west road, Rock Lake Rd. Take a left onto Belsby Rd (a dirt Road, but not a private road) and continue till the road drops down into the canyon. Get into the VERY small stream, big enough for flat bottom canoes, and travel north about 1 mile. At the southern end of the lake about .25 miles up the east side has a lot of pads, and the bass there bite well from 2-6pm. Its a hard lake to get to, but the scenery and tranquility are well worth it. Chances are you will always be alone on this lake because it is so hard to get into. Aaron Borg

It is a 13 acre lake that reaches 15 feet at its deepest, and draws down 3 or 4 feet during the hottest summer months. Bradley Park has recently undergone new renovations, including closing the former gravel parking lot, and opening a new asphalt lot several hundred yards to the south. Brownlee Reservoir

County: Baker

This usually turbid Snake River reservoir of nearly 14,000 acres might be Oregon's (and Idaho's) best warmwater fishery. Probably will suffer in the future due to water release practices mandated by salmon recovery programs. As many as two million crappie (both black and white) have been pulled from Brownlee in a single season in the recent past. Crappies weighing at least two and a half pounds are usually taken each season. Also furnishes good to excellent fishing for smallmouth bass and channel catfish and recently held the Oregon record for smallmouth bass with fish weighing six pounds and 14 ounces. Currently holds the Oregon and Idaho state records for flathead catfish with fish weighing 42 and 58 1/2 pounds respectively. Also recently held the Oregon bullhead catfish record with a three pound six ounce fish. Giant bluegills may be the lunker fishery of the near future as many 10 to 11-inch fish are now taken. Bait anglers also catch many large rainbow trout each year. Other species present include white sturgeon, largemouth bass, yellow perch, pumpkinseed sunfish and carp.

Brown's Lake is reached by crossing the Pend Oreille River at Usk and heading 5 miles north, then 6 miles northeast to the south shore, where there's a USFS campground and boat launch (no motorized boats).
