Banks Lake (24,900 acres): This is the best walleye water in the region and is popular with anglers statewide. Kokanee have been planted for several years, but have received only light pressure from anglers. A cooperative rainbow trout rearing project between WDFW, an Electric City sportsmen's group and Coulee City Chamber of Commerce offers improved trout fishing, with fish running to 5 pounds. Largemouth bass fishing should be good to excellent. Abundant smallmouth bass up to 4 pounds are available along rocky shoreline areas. Yellow perch and lake whitefish are very abundant. Crappie fishing will be poor-to-fair. Several public access areas are well developed, including a state park about mid-way up the lake and a city park at Coulee City on the south end.

This hike is an easy 2.2 miles at a very gradual elevation gain to a beautiful little lake (Barclay) which is situated beneath towering Baring Mountain. It's a straight-up peak of about 1500' that very much resembles El Capitan in Yosemite. If you can tear your eyes away from this sight long enough to fish, you'll be rewarded with small bows' out of Barclay.

Right off I-5 near the steam train, between Adna/PeEll exit and 13th st. exit in Chehalis. It is about a 10 +/- acre pond/lake? It sure has a big variety of fish, and is great for kids (they don't get bored waiting for fish to bite).

King County's Bass Lake covers 24 surface acres and has a maximum depth of about 40 feet. This stained water lake contains largemouth bass, yellow perch, black crappie and sunfish. Some real nice sized bass and perch. I've caught bass to 21 inches and perch to about 12 inches. This is a very good lake to fish early in the season -- March and April. Later in the season it becomes quite weedy and difficult to fish. Public access is provided by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. The large access area has lots of parking space and a rough gravel boat launching area that is best suited for hand carried craft. To get there from Black Diamond, travel south on Highway #169 about 4 miles to the WDFW access on the right. Photos and Overview by Bob Johansen

Spokane County owns and maintains Bear Lake and the park that surrounds it. It is located 15 miles north of Spokane on highway 2. The 80 acre park is developed with a paved hiking trail around the lake and has two plumbed restroom buildings, one on each side of the lake. A well maintained playground is available for the kids along with easy safe access to fishing and swimming. There are picnic tables with BBQ grills spaced randomly around the park, all within view of the lake and playground. During normal summer hours, there is a life guard on duty. Currently, Bear Lake is managed as a juvenile fishing water which entitles juveniles under 15 years of age, licensed adults accompanied by a juvenile, and persons possessing a reduced fee disability license, to fish the lake. Check with the WDFW for exact regulations for fishing this lake. Only small hand launch boats are allowed. No Motors. I hiked an easy 2.2 miles in on the Ashland Lakes trail to a pond like lake called Beaver Plant Lake(2900 feet) .I caught an 8" cutt on my first cast but only managed 2 bites the next half hour. I continued on down the trail another 8 tenths of a mile to Upper Ashland lake (2700 feet) and ate lunch at a nice camp site. Then it was back to fishing. I saw no surface feeding and didn't get a bite in 45 minutes. A 1/2 mile further is lower Ashland Lake and 1 mile past that lake is cup lake. I don't know if these lakes hold fish cuzz I had a time limit and had to go home. I will be back next year to find out. This hike would be good for people with children as it has very little elevation gain as well as the trail being well maintained. V-Trail reports honey buckets but I saw none. For reference these lakes are located near Lake Boardman and lake Evans (mountain loop hwy). Keep it Clean Cracker Jack
