Panther

County: Kitsap
Type: Freshwater Lake

Rating:

Kitsap/Mason counties Panther Lake covers 105 surface acres, reaches a maximum depth of about 25 feet and lies at an elevation of 497 feet. Fish species include rainbow trout and largemouth bass. Prime bass habitat includes lots of private docks, overhanging brush and trees, and old logs and wood in the water. Public access is provided by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. The access area is very small with no room to turn around a boat trailer and tow rig. Backing down into the launch area is almost a must unless you have a car-topper or hand carried craft. There is no ramp but the gravel along the shoreline is fairly solid. Probably a four-wheel is the best for a boat trailer launch. It is nearly impossible to float a boat off a trailer during low water conditions of late summer or fall. Limited but usually adequate parking space and a pit toilet are located across the street from the access area. Overview and photos by: Bob Johansen

Park Lake (346 acres): Trout fishing should be fair-to-good at this lake, which is a part of Sun Lakes State Park. Spring rainbow trout fry plants have not survived well recently because of competition from warmwater species. There is a resort, a public access area with toilets, plus camping and picnicking.

Hiked A 1/2 mile to pretty Pass lake with the kids. This lake is small maybe 5 acres. Fished on and off for an hour with a red rooster tail. I saw no surface feeding. I caught no fish. There is fish in this lake but all I saw was some three inchers that followed my spinner. Easy hike for the kids. Keep it clean Cracker Jack

Reservoir created between Chief Joseph and Wells dam-this needs added as this is where 90% of the up river Chinook Salmon/and later sockeye/steelhead on good run years are caught right at the mouth of the Okanogan River, this lake also has trophy bass and walleye as well. The WDFG usually opens the reservoir to King fishing around the 15th of July and there are normally upwards of 200 boats on the water as of sunrise, this is such a huge fishery the WDFG spends tons of money for creel checks and those numbers may even be available for publishing on the website, this would also give a central location for the Douglas County PUD Wells dam fish counts. Situated north of Sun Lakes State Park and near Dry Falls Lake, Perch Lake is a relatively small shore-fishing lake which is accessible from a primitive road which approaches the lake from the south and runs along its east side. Most anglers opt to fish from a rocky embankment located on the east side of the lake. Since there is no established boat launch, few boats are ever launched onto or seen on the lake. Despite its name, Perch Lake exclusively holds rainbow trout. Michael M. Wyman

Petit Lake is a serene little mountain lake that offers both solitude and scenery. Stocked with Cutthroat trout ranging from 8-13" that are eager to take a surface fly and love to give a good battle. It is an ideal lake for someone who is just starting to fly fish or those that want to relax and sharpen their surface action reflexes.

King County’s Phantom Lake is located about 3 ½ miles SE from Bellevue. The lake is located at 250 feet of elevation, 63.2 surface acres and with a maximum depth of 47 feet. Fish species include largemouth bass, yellow perch, black crappie, brown bullhead catfish and pumpkinseed sunfish. Public access to this little lake is through the Lake Hills Green Belt Park. The park provides parking for about 10 cars, restrooms, a fishing dock and a muddy, shallow boat launching area. From the parking lot to the boat launching area is about 100 yards so a hand carried craft is a must. Internal combustion engines are banned on the lake.Bob Johansen

Located NE of Cewelah WA. It is small, just over 1 acre. It is in a beautiful setting, but gets trashed by local party heads. It is planted with Brookies. The pond/lake is deep for its size and Brookies up to 15" are rumored to reside within. The lake is listed at being 1 acre. In 2008 it was stocked with 495 Eastern Brook trout. The lake has a small inlet that you can hear trickling down behind the rocks. This gives me reason to suspect this lake may winter-kill from time to time. I would suspect that fall would be the best time to hit this lake.

Good fishing for trout in the Spring and good for perch, bluegill and largemouth bass during Summer and Fall. Watch out for water skiers during sunny, summer week-ends. Bob Johansen

A substantial enlargement of the Powder River formed by Mason Dam, this 2,350 acre reservoir is located about 12 miles southwest of Baker City and just south of Highway 7. Phillips has undergone a yellow perch explosion and the average size has suffered, but there are still a few 12-inch lunkers in the lake. Walleyes are present in the lake, but have not done much to increase the average size of the perch. Phillips also offers decent smallmouth bass fishing and also contains largemouth bass, channel catfish and black crappies. Also offers fair fishing for good-sized rainbows.
